The Casual Art Critic
In the museum, at the dinner table, or thumbing through the Culture section of the newspaper, an artwork catches your eye and won't let go. While a deep knowledge of Art History is a fabulous underpinning for talking about art, it is totally unnecessary for having a deep and meaningful discussion about an artwork.
In this workshop, we will look at how to talk about art outside of a professional context. We will practice a few simple structures for expressing interest or dislike of a work, practice talking about a range of different types of works, engage in informal discussions, and walk out a casual art critic!

About Elysa Lozano
Trained at the Rhode Island School of Design and Goldsmiths College, Elysa Lozano’s art practice emulates a not-for-profit, called Autonomous Organization, which has produced proposals for Socialist colonies in a high-rise building in Houston, Texas, re-branded an exhibition space in London as a construction site, and created a web archive of project space survival strategies. Between curating, writing and conducting field research, she lectures at CUNY LaGuardia in Figure Drawing, Art History, and Urban Studies.
