Comic Book Super Science

This class will discuss the role of science in American superhero comics. From early depictions of Batman and Superman as "science heroes" to the evolution of scientific plot devices like radioactive spiders and super soldier serums, we'll explore the influence of scientific discoveries on comic book storytelling as well as how comic books reflect popular conceptions of science's place in society.

John Borghi is a science librarian and research support specialist at The Rockefeller University in Manhattan. Though he spent his formative years in the suburbs of Massachusetts, he has lived in New York for the last five years- earning a Ph.D. in Integrative Neuroscience from Stony Brook University in 2013.
